Over the last 12 months membership of our Society has increased significantly and we have implemented a number of initiatives designed to appeal to our current members, but also attract new members.
However we were delighted to introduce a Corporate Membership package in 2015 whereby firms pay a “global” fee depending on their membership requirements. This is detailed below:
All solicitors are entitled to be full Members, but a further benefit of corporate membership is that firms can have an unlimited number of Associate Members. This can include trainee solicitors, legal executives, practice managers, cashiers etc. So by way of an example if you have 9 solicitors you will pay £250 which will entitle them to full membership for 12 months and in addition you can have an unlimited number of Associate Members. In terms of the benefits they will receive these are detailed below.
What do we offer our Members?
On average we run a seminar each month and a variety of topics are covered, including legal updates on subjects such as Employment Law, Family Law, Property Law as well as matters relating to Practice Management such as a COLP/COFA forum. These seminars are free to all Members and Associate Members. In the interests of convenience these seminars generally run at the University of Law in Chester, however other venues have included Glyndŵr University in St Asaph and the Springfield Hotel in Holywell. We appreciate work commitments so the seminars run between 5:30pm and 7pm.
Our Society provides the opportunity to meet and discuss the current issues facing the legal profession and also a means of influencing its’ future direction. We are also fortunate to have a Law Society Council Member on our Committee which provides a direct link to the Law Society at Chancery Lane. This enables us to raise concerns and equally receive details of the latest developments occurring on a national level.
We have expanded our range of social events which now includes an Annual Dinner, Annual Ball, Quiz night and Golf Day. Not only does this provide a great opportunity to socialise but also the chance to network with colleagues from the legal profession and share best practice.
We have recently re-launched our website in an effort to improve communication and engagement and ultimately make it more user friendly. Integral to this strategy was the ability to provide a solution for those seeking a career mover or for employers to fill their vacancies. Please visit the recruitment section of this website for the latest vacancies.
Junior Lawyers Divison (JLD)
Our Society works closely with the JLD and the JLD is now represented on the Committee. This provides valuable representation and support for both Trainee and Junior Solicitors and joint events and activities are promoted.
