Presidents’ and Secretaries’ Conference 2018
On a sunny Friday Morning in May, President Amy Norman and Vice President Carol Draycott boarded a train bound for London and the 2018 Presidents’ and Secretaries’ Conference.
The two day conference, held at the home of the Law Society on Chancery Lane, brings together officers from all local law societies in England and Wales, from those with only a handful of members to those with over 5000.
With presentations from Joe Egan, President of the Law Society, Christina Blacklaws, incoming President, Interim Chief Executive Paul Tennant and Chair of the Law Society Board Robert Bourns the event was always going to be enlightening and passionate about the Law Society. Breakout groups on topics relevant to local law societies such as social media presence and influencing policy, together with the reveal of the Local Law Societies Handbook meant that delegates came away with a wealth of knowledge and ideas for their own Society.
Friday evening brought with it a black tie dinner in the Common Room which looked stunning lit with candelabras.
Amy and Carol came away from the conference having shared ideas with many other local law society representatives and forging some long term relationships which they will be ready to build upon at the Local Law Society Conference to be hosted by Leicester Law Society in the Autumn.
