Study on consumer vulnerability in the legal market
On 5th February 2025, the SRA released a study by Professor Harriet Pierpoint and Dr Paolo Baffero (University of South Wales), exploring the development of a tool to measure consumer vulnerability in the legal market. The research highlighted the complexity of defining and quantifying client vulnerability, as it is not always visible.
Instead of focusing on individual adjustments, the study recommended a ‘universal practice’ approach, encouraging legal services to break down barriers to become more easily attainable. Paul Phillip, Chief Executive of the SRA said:
‘It is clear that, in order to improve accessibility, build trust, and reduce complaints, the legal sector could look at designing services that are accessible and inclusive for everyone.’
In line with this, ReviewSolicitors is proud to offer a widely accessible and user-friendly platform, supporting vulnerable individuals to find reliable legal recommendations. The report also encouraged law firms to seek more ‘opportunities for consumer feedback’ – an approach that aligns closely with ReviewSolicitors’ commitment to transparency and client engagement, empowering informed decision-making.
